Winter equipment
Winter tyres must be specially labelled M+S, MS or M&S.

Art. 6
"61. Winter tyres – as approved by Council Directive 92/23/EEC of 31 March 1992 relating to tyres for motor vehicles and their trailers and to their fitting, the Regulation of Economic Commission for Europe of UN no.30, or the Regulation of Economic Commission for Europe of UN no.54, as appropriate".
Art. 102
It is considered an offense and is punished by a fine according to Class IV of sanctions, the following:
28. driving on roads covered with snow, ice or glaze, without being equipped with winter tires, and in case of freight vehicle with a maximum authorized total mass greater than 3.5 tones and passenger vehicle with more than 9 seats including the driver, without being equipped with winter tires on the driving axle/axles or without chains mounted on the these wheels or other certified anti-slippery equipments.
Class IV of sanctions
(2) A fine point-value is 10% of the gross minimum wage on the economy, established by Government decision.
(4) Classes of penalties are:
d) Class IV - 9 to 20 points, fine.
Art. 112
(1) The registration certificate or the proof of its replacement shall be retained by the traffic police in the following cases:
h1) the vehicle is not equipped, on public roads covered with snow, ice or glaze, with winter tyres, and the freight vehicle with a maximum authorized total mass exceeding 3.5 tones and passenger vehicle with than 9 seats including the driver, are not equipped with winter tyres on the driving axle/axles or without chains mounted on these wheels or other certified anti-slippery equipments.
